Our home base is Halifax and we therefore spend a significant amount of time there, especially during the pandemic and lockdown when all the restaurants and shops were closed. So, you’re visiting Nova Scotia! You’re going to hear so many suggestions to spend time in Halifax, visit the Annapolis Valley, head to the South Shore or go to Cape Breton (you can’t go wrong with any of those suggestions!). However, we’ve got a different suggestion for you.

Anyone that follows us regularly knows that one of our favourite things about visiting a new country is the food! We weren’t entirely sure what to expect before arriving in Romania, but we knew it would have Turkish and Eastern European influences, and be somewhat heavy and hearty. We definitely were not wrong. The food in Romania is especially appealing in colder months. Thankfully we visited Bucharest in late fall and had the perfect weather and temperatures to match the food style!

We just spent a fantastic summer exploring our own backyard, our home province of Nova Scotia (if you’re unfamiliar, it’s on the very east coast of Canada). A lot of that time was spent in the northern region of Nova Scotia, an island called Cape Breton.

As we write this we’ve just wrapped up the most incredible four days visiting Indigenous Tourism locations throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Like most people from the Maritime Provinces we frequently drove through and past First Nations communities, yet we were both unaware of the amazing cultural experiences we were missing out on.

Often when travelling for long periods at a time we tend to plan our next destination relatively last minute. While we were in Santiago, Chile, we spent quite a bit of time debating whether we should fly to Mendoza, Argentina or take the bus. Being fully aware that flying would be much quicker (the full flight is about a half hour) and still relatively inexpensive, we’d heard that although much longer, the bus ride through the Andes Mountains was one of the best in the world.

There are so many fun and exciting things to do and places to explore in Lima, however, one thing you absolutely cannot miss out on is trying Peruvian food! Lima is often called the food capital of South America and we didn’t have a hard time figuring out why. Lima is a beautiful, historic city full of culture and has also experienced influxes of immigrants from other parts of the world, making their food interesting and diverse!

As frequent travellers, we inevitably end up using Airbnb a lot. Although staying in a hotel can be a lot of fun, there are definitely some distinct advantages to picking an Airbnb. You’ll potentially have access to a kitchen which means you can cook for yourself, you’ll likely have more space than a hotel, you get to essentially find out what it’s like to live like a local, all while plausibly saving a fair bit of money (compared to a hotel)!

We recently spent a couple of weeks in beautiful Argentina (primarily between Mendoza and Buenos Aires) and absolutely fell in love with the country. Bursting with friendly people, amazing food and wine and gorgeous landscapes, there isn’t much not to like about Argentina.

While visiting Puerto Rico we spend the majority of time in and around the main city of San Juan, on the north side of the island. We were therefore really excited to have the opportunity to visit a totally different part of Puerto Rico.
