Staying at Hotel Las Nubes Holbox

1.png

Situated less than two hours from Cancun, Isla Holbox is a quiet, hidden gem of Mexico. Isla Holbox is specifically known for its stunning beaches where you can practically walk on the water because of its sandbars that stretch for miles. In the late summer and early fall, whale sharks migrate to nearby waters and many tours are offered. One of the numerous charms of Holbox is that there are also no cars on the island, so you’ll have get around by golf cart, bike or foot!

On a recent, second visit to this beautiful island, we had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Las Nubes. On our first visit we had dinner at this stunning beach hotel and knew on a return visit that we’d love to stay.

The Hotel:

Most hotels on Holbox are either right in town, or along the hotel strip that stretches down the beach. Las Nubes is in the perfect location, right at the end of hotel zone. It’s feels secluded and private but is a quick golf cart or bike (more about that soon) ride into town, right along the beach road, it’s incredibly scenic!

On our first visit to the hotel we actually missed the incredible view! We had been there in the evening to catch the sunset and have dinner and didn’t actually realize that the hotel is perhaps set in the most beautiful area of all of Holbox.

The hotel itself is divided into various buildings, with the lobby, restaurant and bar on one side along with the beach section, and the rooms are in an assortment of buildings scattered throughout the property. You’ll also find three separate pools in different areas.

We were there in early April, definitely still high season for the hotel but it never felt crowded and we didn’t have any trouble finding lounge chairs on the beach or by any of the pools.

Our Room:

We stayed in a King Junior Suite. Our building was located closest to the lobby. Though it wasn’t promoted as “ocean view” we had an incredible view of the clear water.

The room itself was extremely spacious with a king sized bed, a dining table, a very large and comfy lounge chair, and huge bathroom with a shower. The patio stretched across the entire front of our room and was perfect for a morning coffee. There were also two hammocks in front of room and we admittedly spend a lot of time in them!

Amenities and Activities:

Because the hotel is situated right on the beach, there are lots of water activities available including kayaking (free for guests). It’s actually the perfect place to practice your kayaking skills as the water is so calm and shallow.

Another great perk of staying here is that the hotel offers free bikes for its guests. It takes about 15 minutes to take a leisurely bike ride into town, and we did it almost daily. The hotel has about 10 or so bikes but we never seemed to have any issues getting two.

The hotel also has a beach bar (we ate lunch on the beach everyday during our stay), as well as a restaurant and bar-both are in the same building and have spectacular views of the water. The menu is delicious and varied from Mexican to Italian to some menu items with a twist- we assure you, no matter what your taste, you won’t be hungry.

One thing to aware of if visiting the island is that wifi is very limited! If you’re like us and work for yourself, it can be a bit of scramble at times. We found the internet better at the hotel early in the morning or later at night and closer to the lobby. But we assure you, you won’t be streaming YouTube or Netflix! There is little point in complaining to the hotel about this as it is an island wide situation, so please come prepared!

Last Thoughts:

One of the most frequent questions we get asked, is where is our favourite place we’ve visited so far. Isla Holbox is certainly towards the top of that list and we can’t stop screaming its praises! If you’re planning a trip here (and you should), Hotel Las Nubes is the perfect place to stay for your visit.
